Saraswati Shloka is a Hindu prayer addressed to the goddess Saraswati, who symbolizes all forms of knowledge. Hindus worship goddess Saraswati as the goddess of knowledge, craft, music, wisdom. The shloka is chanted before the beginning of a class or at the beginning of one’s studies. Saraswati Shloka:
सरस्वति नमस्तुभ्यं वरदे कामरूपिणि ।
विद्यारम्भं करिष्यामि सिद्धिर्भवतु मे सदा ॥
Translation:
saraswati namastubhyam varadé kāmarūpiṇi |
vidyārambham kariṣhyāmi, siddhirbhavatu mé sadā ||
saraswati namastubhyam varade kAmarUpiNi |
vidyArambham kariShyAmi, siddhirbhavatu me sadA ||
Meaning:
O Saraswatī, salutations for you, O Giver of boons, O Kāmarūpiṇī,
I am going to start my studies, may success be mine, always.
Why is she called the boon giver?
Devotees from all over the world worship goddess Saraswati to seek her blessings and favors. People worship her to get money, health, and wealth, but ultimately who does that? It is our knowledge that gives us the boon we desire. Knowledge is considered to be the supreme power. If someone has knowledge related to hygiene, exercise, and nutrition then he will remain healthy. If he knows how to make money then he will become wealthy. So by acquiring the relevant knowledge one could achieve his or her desires.
